Summary …
Ken was a most affable chap who put others before himself. He judged and related to others as an equal treating other
as he wished to be treated no matter their genre, status, creed, or culture - Ken was most certainly ahead of his time
in equitable social interaction.
His careers reflected his ways of helping people, particularly those in need. Ken spent his time in the military between
Windsor Castle duties and serving as part of the peace keeping force in the Middle East (Palestine).
It was in his time at Windsor Castle (Victoria Barracks) that he met and courted Pearl. Indeed, their passing wish
was to have their ashes spread along the side of the Long Walk in Windsor. Ken enlisted with his best friend and later
to be brother-in-law Frank Parker in the Coldstream Guards but due to an incident in Windsor they were required by the
Coroner in Windsor and missed a posting instead later joining a posting with the Welsh Guards with who they then
served (Ken and Frank witnessed and assisted in a drowning in the River Thames).
It was of particular joy and pride to Ken and Pearl when their grandson Louis Edward WHITE (1979) joined the Coldstream
Guards as an Officer and as well as active peacekeeping activities in the Middle East spent several postings undertaking
Royal duties at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. Louis is the son of their son John.
Ken later joined what was then called the Royal Berkshire and Reading Fire Brigade (now known as the Royal Berkshire
Fire and Rescue Service). Initially posted at Caversham Road Station in Reading before being promoted to Newbury, then
Windsor, Maidenhead and Slough Stations. His final posting was as a Fire Prevention Officer specialisingin petroleum.
In his retirement Ken and Pearl focused on Ballroom and Latin dancing and overseas travelling (mostly to the
Caribbean). Sadly, Pearl after a long illness passed in 2008 and after a six-month trip to Australia to see son John
he joined his daughter in Ruthin. Ken enjoyed excellent health thanks to his daughter Sue until dementia forced placement
in a local full time specialist care unit where he remained for about a year before joining his wife in heaven.
The thing that touched those who came in contact with him the most was his reliable, kind, and respectful ways - many
could learn a lesson from Ken's ways.
